As I have become older my daily functions have changed tremendously. I used to run around a lot. Now I can only walk or, at most, walk fast. I used to see everything around me with my 20/20 vision. Now I can only see things that are within 5 meters range. I used to hear everything my wife and kids tell me and react at the things they say every chance I get. Now my wife and kids induldge themselves in conversations that I could no longer understand because of hearing loss. I realized that as I grow older it is not the speed and the sharp sense of sight that I get to miss the most. The sign of aging that had affected my life tremendously is my loss of hearing. As people grow older people appreciate listening more than talking. It is good that I was able to identify this need soon as I would have become depressed if I let myself be hard of hearing forever. The hearing aid made me, not just hear, but listen to people talking around me. With my hearing aid, I have been able to involve myself in a normal conversation with my kids and my wife.
